Traditional & History

Prosperity swept through the area with the completion of Oxford Street (formerly South Head Road) in 1811. The junction became home to diverse early industries, including Henry Hough's windmill, renowned for cereal production, alongside soap and candle works, the Waverley Brewery, a dairy, and a Boot Factory established in 1892. Amidst numerous late 19th Century shops and the notable architecture of Grace Bro's Gladsmuir, an imposing Victorian Villa, these establishments played pivotal roles in moulding the economic and social fabric of the region.
